C. R. Sundwall PreSchool

September's news:

Dear Parents,

Preschool classes will begin September 6th (the day after Labor Day). We will have our annual “Child Find” Fair on August 23 rd (the first day of school in Grand District) located at the Sundwall Preschool. Please refer to the main preschool page for detailed information, and call the secretary Annie, to schedule your appointment after August 15th. Annie is moving to a new location at the High School and her telephone number is not known at the time of this posting. However information will be available and listed on the local TV roller bar, in the Advertiser and Times Independent newspaper approximately one week before the Child Find day.

Once everything is in place, we begin our first week of school by learning our safety rules and routines of the day, and generally becoming familiar with the preschool environment. Throughout the month, students have ample opportunities to explore various types of play such as dramatic (dolls and dress-ups), sand and paint, macro (unit blocks) and micro (cars and small manipulatives).

Our second week of school, students will learn about themselves through our unit “All About Me.” Small group activities provide opportunities for our very young learners to develop self awareness.

In our third week, concepts are expanded to include “My Family.” Activities center on student's families.

The final week of September will be spent expanding concepts further to include “Our Community.” Children's background knowledge is shared and built upon in terms of our local community life. In addition to our themes, students are exposed to the color blue, number one, and shape of the circle. Other pre academic skills include listening to stories, learning songs and finger plays, and becoming familiar with the sound and look of letters M, F, and C.

As always all activities are developmentally appropriate for our students and include sensory exploration in a variety of mediums, fine and gross motor activities, color and number recognition, rote counting, pre-literacy and other pre-academic skills. In addition, individualized education goals and objectives for each student are embedded within the curriculum. All of our preschooler's needs are designed and contained in a fun filled environment we call preschool. We look forward to the wonderful month of September. Think Blue!
